Shawn Weaver

Shawn began training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with Pedro Sauer in 1993. He earned his Black Belt in 2003. Shawn was the first Black Belt from Professor Sauer's main Salt Lake Academy and the entire State of Utah. He was the second Black Belt from Professor Sauer's Association. Weave is as tough on the mat as he is nice off of the mat. For those of you who don't know, that's really tough.

Shawn is the head instructor at the Unified Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy and there is no-one better to learn self-defense from.

John "One-Eye" Carlquist

John began learning Brazilian Jiu Jitsu from Professor Pedro Sauer in 1999. Having done various martial arts his entire life, he was a fast learner. In addition, his knowledge of other arts allowed him to weigh the pros and cons of each. It did not take long for him to realize, that Jiu Jitsu had no strikes against it. Early on, John pulled his weight at the academy by mopping the mats every night. Eventually, he was made an assistant instructor. After years of commitment, passion and devotion John earned his black belt in 2006.

James Gardner

James began his Jiu Jitsu career in Salt Lake, Utah under Professor Sauer in 1997. For a brief time he moved to Southern California where he earned his Blue Belt from Pedro Carvalho. He then moved back to Salt Lake City, Utah where he continued his training with Professor Sauer. In the summer of 2000 James trained with Fabio Santos in San Diego, California. Once again, James moved back to Salt Lake City, Utah where he has remained with the exception of a Winter spent training with Cassio Werneck in Sacramento, California. James received his Black Belt from Professor Sauer in 2005.

James is considered, by his peers, the most technical and most humble of all of Professor Sauer's students.

Chris Wells

Chris has wrestled competitively for over 25 years. During that time he was a multiple time AAU Junior Olympic/USA Nationals medalist in both Freestyle and Greco-Roman Wrestling. He is a member of the Ohio Team for Greco-Roman Wrestling. In addtion, he wrestled collegiately for both Northern Michigan University and California University PA.

Chris received his Black Belt from Professor Sauer in 2008 and has been the takedown instructor here in the Salt Lake City, Utah for the Unified Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy for the past 5 years.
